So, Who am I?

My name is Grace Walburn-Jones, I am a sophomore in college here at LBCC. I am working towards earning my bachelors degree in Communications! I want to work for St. Jude Children's Hospital and their fundraising team. I used to struggle in school, especially with Math, Science, and History but I could always rely on English class to be my escape. I took this class because I have always been intrigued with feature writing and columns in the paper. I am thrilled to see where I go this term! The idea of a blog is really exciting for me, it's a way for me to express myself without formal writing like essays in school.

Three Goals this Term:

1. I'd like to become confident in sending my work into papers for publication.

2.  I'd like to become a more diverse writer, not only doing essays in school but personal pieces that aren't meant for a grade.

3. Finally, I'd like to get into the rhythm of writing in my blog so that I continue to write in it even when the class is over.

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word “poetry"? You may think of a way of rhyming or maybe some famous authors you’ve heard of. For some people, poetry means a way to escape reality, to pour your heart out when you are feeling at your lowest or maybe even your highest. For some, it is a way of life. Every Tuesday in the EDI, the Office of Institutional Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, the Poetry Club hosts their weekly meetings. Postcard from the Future: A Visit to Buckingham Palace

My mom taught me all about Princess Diana and how amazing she was, and my fascination for the royal family began. I have since collected books on the family and dreamt of the day I could go to London to see Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace was the home of Queen Elizabeth II, and it is said that King Charles is expected to make Buckingham Palace his official royal residence. The Queen lived there for her entire 70-year reign until several weeks prior to her death when she resided in Balmoral Castle. When you think of London you usually think of either Big Ben or Buckingham Castle, it is a staple.  According to Woman & Home, “Buckingham Palace existed originally as Buckingham House, bought in 1761 by George III, for his wife Queen Charlotte”. A Trip Under the Sea: A Review of The Little Mermaid (2023)

We got a new look to our classic princess of the sea, as “The Little Mermaid” splashed into theaters on May 26 and took the world by storm. Little kids and adults everywhere have been itching to see this film since it was announced back in 2016. This film stands as a live-action remake of the 1989 Disney classic featuring our favorite little mermaid, Ariel. The big obvious change from the original to this live-action was the fact that this new Ariel played by Halle Bailey, is a black actress with pipes of gold. Many had issues with her race as the original followed a young white mermaid with bright red hair. I think they quickly changed their minds when they first heard Halle Bailey’s version of “Part of Your World.” The minute she started singing I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. She is Ariel.
